Clean Recycle Bin

Learn how to use the Clean Recycle Bin feature in Geergit to free up storage space by removing orphaned local profile backups that no longer exist on the server.

What is Clean Recycle Bin?

The Clean Recycle Bin feature helps you maintain consistency between your local profiles and the profiles stored on the Geergit server. When you delete a profile from Geergit, the configuration and all associated values are removed from the server, but your local backup files are not automatically deleted. The Clean Recycle Bin feature allows you to remove these orphaned local backups that no longer exist on the server.

How It Works

The Clean Recycle Bin feature performs the following actions:

  1. Compares Local and Server State — Geergit checks all profiles present on the server and identifies which profiles exist locally on your device.
  2. Identifies Orphaned Backups — The feature detects local profile backups that are not present on the server. These are profiles you've deleted from your account but still have stored locally.
  3. Removes Orphaned Backups — Geergit permanently deletes the local backups that don't exist on the server, cleaning up storage space and ensuring your local profiles match your server state.

When Should You Use Clean Recycle Bin?

You should use the Clean Recycle Bin feature when:

  • You've deleted profiles from your Geergit account and want to remove the local copies
  • You want to free up storage space by removing unused profile backups
  • You want to ensure your local profiles are in sync with your server
  • You're switching devices and want a clean slate with only current profiles

!WARNING This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Once you clean the recycle bin, the orphaned local backup files will be permanently deleted from your device and cannot be recovered.
